Golfing can be one of the most rewarding sports to play. Mastering your putting technique or avoiding water and sand traps on a course can make for a successful round of golf. Finding courses you enjoy can help with working on the skills you want to develop. Whether you are traveling or a local, Georgia has great courses you can enjoy and work on your game.
Great Waters Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee:
Located between Atlanta and Augusta, Great Waters is a beautiful course with wooded and lake views. Creating not only difficult obstacles to avoid but also a distraction of scenic features. Great Water’s dramatic layout was designed by Jack Nicklaus in the 1990s. Reynold’s doesn’t just provide you with a great golfing experience, but also an enjoyable atmosphere at the Clubhouse and along with its other offered amenities. At the moment, this course is under construction and going through a total renovation. The course will be reopening in Fall of 2019.
Chastain Park Golf Course:
Chastain Park is rated Atlanta’s top public course, located in Atlanta’s Buckhead neighborhood. This 18-hole course has features including a scenic view of the Buckhead skyline. It is my go to course since I live right down the street. The course provides many challenges such as elevation changes, water hazards, bunkers, and narrow fairways.
St. Marlo Country Club:
Voted one of the best public golf courses in Atlanta, St. Marlo Country Club is located in Duluth, Georgia. The course was designed by Denis Griffiths. The course includes waterfalls, stonework, and flow with the rolling terrain of the land. St. Marlo’s is a semi-private golf club which offers a great value and a long list of events and dining options.
Peachtree Golf Club:
Peachtree Golf Club is both famous and unknown. Famous because it was designed by Bobby Jones (Robert Tyre Jones), in association with Robert Trent Jones, Sr., in 1948. And unknown, because it was intended that way when it was designed and built. It had become difficult for Bobby Jones, the most famous golfer on the planet, to play at his home course, East Lake Golf Club, without drawing a crowd. In order to have a place where he and his friends could play the game they loved in peace, Peachtree was created as a very exclusive club whose members seek no publicity. In fact, there are only 225 Club Members. One Member for each acre of land. I was lucky enough to be invited by a long time Member and it turned out to be one of the best golf days in my life.
